Pan, kept alive — and passing it on.
Founded with steel pans gifted to the Trust by Birkby School, Mandy Tomkin and Johnny Flowers, the Legacy Steel Band is now in its fourth year. Fifteen musicians of all ages meet weekly under the leadership of Melvin Zakers, rehearsing together and performing across Kirklees.
A new collaboration with Kirklees College is launching an accredited Steel Pan course, opening up the tradition to a new generation of players. The band is available to book for community events, weddings, schools and corporate functions throughout the year.
